Fun: Superstitions Do you believe in all this nonsense?

Superstitions are a sort of magic: some people believe in them and some people do not. But practically everybody is fascinated by them.
In England it is unlucky, they say, to spill salt. If you are supertitious, you will take a little and throw it over your left shoulder (three times). This will protect you from bad luck. If you are not superstitious, you will probably do the same, "just in case". After all, there is no point in taking risks!
Superstitions are different from country to country, but some are the same. The superstitions on this page are common in England. Do you believe in any of them?

BAD LUCK
If you break a mirror, you will have seven years' bad luck.
Never put new shoes on a table.
Don't walk under a ladder.
Don't talk when you are under a railway bridge.
Never light three cigarettes with one match.
Don't open an umbrella inside a house.
Never put a loaf of bread upside down on a table.
Don't accept a knife as a present.
Don't put red flowers and white flowers together.

HOW TO AVOID BAD LUCK
Cross your fingers.
Touch wood.
Put on your socks inside out.
Spit on your shoe.
Keep something "lucky" in your pocket (a white stone,for example).
If someone sneezes, say "Bless you!".
If you walk under a ladder, spit on the ground.
If someone wants to give you a knife as a present, you have to give them some money for it.

GOOD LUCK
If you find a four-leaved clover, keep it carefully.
If you find a small red spider on your clothes, you will become rich.
If you touch a sailor's collar,you will have good luck.

An old horseshoe.
A four-leaved clover.
A stone with a hole in it.
A champagne cork.
A black cat.
